Our Mission
explaining how government officials’ personal finances & policy decisions impact the public.
Who We Are
Our founder and editor, Jay Hunter started Political Wallet in 2024 after more than a decade of working in newsrooms. Jay first started covering the personal finances of politicians in 2012 for The Economist, Roll Call and Congressional Quarterly.
After some severe health problems left Jay disabled and unable to continue his job at The Washington Post, he started developing the plan for Political Wallet.
Political Wallet is a registered 501(c)3 in the Commonwealth of Virginia under our legal name Hunter Index.
Our small team are all trained fact-checkers, journalists and data integrity specialists.
We offer our data and reporting freely to the public and help train newsrooms across the country on personal financial disclosures of government officials.
We are a nonpartisan data research and nonprofit newsroom with professional memberships in the Institute for Nonprofit News and Investigative Reporters and Editors.
Please consider supporting our nonprofit mission and help keep our coverage free for everyone.
